Individuals With Disabilities
Mustard Seed Communities has been dedicated to the care of children with disabilities who have been abandoned since 1978, recognizing their status as among the most vulnerable and defenseless in any society. In the countries where Mustard Seed Communities operates, children with disabilities are unfortunately routinely abandoned.
Children with disabilities find a loving home with us.
The children under our care grapple with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, epilepsy, blindness, developmental delays, scoliosis, microcephaly, and progeria. Our primary goal is to offer these children a secure and nurturing environment where they not only reside but also receive specialized care and therapy. At the core of MSC’s mission is the advancement of the well-being of children with disabilities.
Claude, a MSC resident in Jamaica explains why it’s important to care for people with disabilities.
Therapy is an integral component of caring for children with disabilities. Based on their individual needs, our dedicated staff formulates a personalized care plan with specific goals for every resident. Daily therapy encompasses: range of motion; hydrotherapy; music therapy; equine therapy; stretching; massages; self-feeding; tactile stimulation; positioning; vestibular stimulation; assisted ambulation; cognitive therapy; coordination; and multisensory stimulation.
“We promise every child in our homes that they will have a home for life—we won’t let any child in our care be abandoned twice.”
– Monsignor Gregory Ramkissoon, Founder
We care for adults with disabilities their whole life long.
Mustard Seed Communities is dedicated to ensuring that no individual is abandoned twice. In Jamaica, there is a significant gap as no facilities, whether governmental or otherwise, cater to individuals with mental and physical disabilities beyond the age of 18. Jacob’s Ladder emerges as a visionary response to this void, aiming to offer a home for 400 adults with mental and physical disabilities, creating a secure and nurturing environment. Our adult-focused apostolates not only serve as homes but also as spaces where residents can acquire and apply practical skills in their everyday lives. Our dedicated caregivers collaborate with residents, fostering a sense of responsibility and dignity in each individual.
