Hope Is Healing: How Loss Helped Alexis Find Her Life’s Calling

Mustard Seed Communities’ mission is centered around immense, unending love. Our vision is for loving service and mutual respect to bring joy, hope, and dignity to marginalized communities.

Alexis Rose, Caregiving Supervisor, spent the past 15 years making this vision a reality.

In her role at My Father’s House, MSC’s home for children and adults with disabilities in Kingston, Jamaica, Alexis Rose is a pillar of strength and dedication. As a Caregiver Supervisor, Alexis leads by example: her compassion and commitment to those who have been abandoned are reflected in the way she nurtures and empowers the residents in her care.

Alexis’ journey into caregiving began with a personal loss—she lost her mother at the age of 14. The experience profoundly shaped her, planting the seed of her desire to help others. “I couldn’t help [my mother] during the time she was sick and needed me,” Alexis recalls. “I want to make a difference.”

“I want to help someone who is not in the position to help themselves.”

Each day, Alexis makes that difference for the residents of My Father’s House. She has become an expert in care, tending to the residents’ medical needs, feeding them, and providing the love and attention that society denied them.

One of those residents is Tyshawn, an eight-year-old who has lived at My Father’s House since 2021.

Tyshawn, who has hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy, relies on a gastric tube for nutrition. Still, facing difficult circumstances, he has not only survived but thrived under Alexis’ care.

“Mustard Seed has been doing a great job in terms of his health and condition,” Alexis notes with a glowing sense of pride.

With humble resilience and dedication, Alexis brings compassion and impactful action to her work with Mustard Seed Communities. She is a vital member of our community where every individual is valued, loved, and given a chance to flourish.

Support from our global community is why Alexis and MSC’s many caregivers can continue to provide this essential care to the most vulnerable. Show compassion, empower individuals who were abandoned, and take action with us today.
